The Smell of Book is not your typical sales office. Its unique properties lie in its combination of book elements and special materials, which enrich the core of the space. The natural form, line, and format of book scrolls are used as artistic installations, creating a simple yet impressive design that washes and sorts out the minds of visitors. It is a space that expresses simplicity, creativity, and integrity.
Technology and materials play a significant role in realizing this design. Stainless steel seamless welding, metal cutting, and art hidden line fishing technology are used. Materials include mirror stainless steel, metal, acrylic, white stone, curved mirror, and terrazzo. The space measures 20 m x 25 m x 8m.
The design team, consisting of Zhang Yun, Zhang Huai, and Zhang Lang, faced a unique challenge. The sales office is on the second floor, while the model room is on the first floor. The team had to find a way to naturally lead customers from the second floor to the first floor. Their solution was to use the idea of a book scroll as the space moving line and a scenic spot, guiding customers downstairs.
The project, which started in May 2020 in Chengdu, China, and finished in September 2020, required extensive research. The team conducted surveys about Chinese scrolls, including their appearance, the choice of scroll text, and their display form. This research allowed the book scroll element to penetrate the entire space, achieving the desired effect.
The Smell of Book is a testament to YLH Design's ability to combine history, design, and innovation. The project's success is reflected in its Golden A' Design Award, granted to creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, advance art, science, design, and technology, and significantly impact the world with their desirable characteristics.
